Resin floor underfloor heating – a golden combination

Both resin floors and underfloor heating provide a high degree of comfort and convenience. A logical and frequently asked question is therefore: do resin floors go well with underfloor heating? We can be brief about the answer: yes, certainly! In fact: a resin floor is the ideal floor to combine with underfloor heating. Resin floors are thinner than most other floors; their high heat permeability ensures good heat distribution. Why this combination works so well, we share in this article.

Resin floor with underfloor heating: the advantages

That resin floors are often executed with underfloor heating is not without reason. The most important advantages at a glance:

  • Resin floors have RC values that can compete with other underfloor heating top performers, such as project vinyl. This means that heat from the floor spreads very quickly through the room. That same property also makes resin floors extremely suitable for floor cooling in buildings and/or homes where cooling is done with the help of heat pumps;
  • Because underfloor heating works with radiant heat, an even, constant and therefore comfortable-feeling heat distribution is ensured;
  • A resin floor is a beautifully flat and seamless floor. With underfloor heating, radiators are no longer necessary and therefore no longer hang in the field of vision, so that the sleek look of the resin floor remains fully intact. The absence of radiators has the additional advantage that more wall and floor surface remains for other interior applications;
  • Underfloor heating is more energy-efficient than heating with radiators. This way, significant savings are made on energy costs.

Important points of attention

For optimal enjoyment of use and preservation of the resin floor, a number of points of attention are important to take into account:

  • When resin floors are applied over existing floors with underfloor heating, such as residential concrete, wooden floors and tiles, some pre-treatments are necessary for good adhesion. Think of leveling the subfloor and/or eliminating any unevenness. Click on the links above for more information about the relevant subfloors;
  • Just before, during and after application of a resin floor over (a subfloor with) underfloor heating, the underfloor heating must not be used for a number of days. This prevents a reaction speed that is too fast during curing and minimizes the risk of cracking in the subfloor;
  • When putting into use, it is important that a good heating protocol is followed. This means that the floor is gradually brought up to temperature.
