In a former Leiden school building, which was transformed into a residential complex, TREU has realized a new floor. The existing floors in the living room and bedroom of one of the homes – wooden floors on wooden constructions – were, according to the brand-new resident, dated and in need of renewal. The question was whether it was possible to install a high-quality resin floor over a wooden floor in combination with underfloor heating. You can read how this project went here.
An immediate match at TREU

A resin floor suitable for wooden subfloors
Applying resin floors to wooden subfloors requires a lot of expertise. Due to changes in humidity, a wooden floor can shrink or expand – even more so than other subfloors. Does this make a wooden floor completely unsuitable for resin floors? No, with the right pre-treatments, floor structure, and composition, applying a resin floor is also possible in those circumstances. A welcome solution, particularly in homes where the wooden floor also forms the load-bearing structure of the living level and the floor therefore cannot be removed.
A PU resin floor in concrete look
Taking the subfloor and comfort wishes into account, a PU resin floor of the type Artificial concrete, a special version of the Artificial resin floor, was advised for the current project. This comfortable, robust-looking resin floor in concrete look is very similar to cement-bound resin floors in terms of both appearance and finish, but due to its slightly elastic character, it has a much better crack-bridging ability.
Expansion- and shrink-resistant result
For an expansion- and shrink-resistant result, the wooden floor was well leveled:
- Fermacell gypsum fiberboards were applied to the subfloor and screwed down in various places;
- The boards were then milled for the underfloor heating pipes;
- The slots were professionally closed to obtain a smooth finish floor;
- The resin floor was applied on top of the finish floor.
Fred is very satisfied with the result and with the working method. “Marc immediately gave us the feeling that we had the same interest. He thinks in solutions. We now have a magnificent resin floor that we are very happy with. Realized entirely according to plan and within budget.”
