Resin floor on living concrete
Living concrete (also referred to as power-troweled or polished concrete floor) is a popular choice in particularly industrial home interiors. Living concrete is often confused with resin floors, but differs from them substantially. For example, living concrete is poured and not troweled or cast, as is the case with respectively cement-bound and polyurethane (PU) resin floors.
Although living concrete and resin floors look very similar, applying a resin floor on living concrete is indeed of added value in various situations. For example, when you want to give the living concrete a different look and feel or provide it with additional quality properties.
Living concrete is very suitable as a subfloor for cement-bound and PU resin floors:
- With the choice for a cement-bound resin floor, the characteristic, natural appearance of the (living) concrete remains intact and is strengthened. The floor is wet-cleanable and therefore applicable as a bathroom floor;
- With the choice for a PU resin floor, the previously massive and hard concrete acquires a slightly elastic and warm-feeling character for optimal user comfort. The floor further acquires liquid-tight properties and is thus suitable for all sanitary rooms.
Resin floor on wooden floor
With the correct pre-treatments, floor build-up and composition, a resin floor is also applicable on wooden subfloors. A welcome solution in situations where the wooden floor also forms the load-bearing structure of the living level and the floor cannot be removed. Because wood ‘works’, this combination needs extra attention. For example, the subfloor must be well leveled beforehand for a tension- and shrink-resistant result. Resin floor on tiles
It is also possible to apply a resin floor on tiles. Just like with wooden floors, a number of pre-treatments are necessary for this. For example, it is important that loose tiles are well secured before the resin floor is applied and all height differences (for example at the joints) are smoothed out. Resin floor on other subfloors
Other subfloors, such as linoleum, vinyl and cork are generally less suitable as a subfloor for resin floors due to the limited adhesion capacity. Do you want to be sure whether the subfloor has sufficient adhesion capacity? An adhesion test offers a solution in that situation.
