Resin floors are very solid, but certainly not indestructible. Do not be surprised if small scratches or other damages occur over the years. In most cases, such signs of use are easy to remedy, but prevention is of course always better. In this article, we share the most important tips & tricks for optimal preservation of your (new) resin floor.
Dullness
In use, a resin floor can start to look somewhat dull. This can have various causes: ranging from accumulated grease residues to a haze originating from the cleaning agents used. Remaining residues are usually easy to remove with a vacuum cleaner and (mop with) microfiber cloth, which also makes the dullness disappear.
The method of cleaning deserves special attention. Always use a pH-neutral cleaning agent. Products with a pH value that is too low can make the top layer irreparably dull, and products with a pH value that is too high leave soap residues, causing the floor to lose its shine. Never use scouring pads or other abrasive materials during cleaning.
When the top layer is irreparably affected, you can make a floor look like new again by applying a new (transparent) top coating.
Discoloration
Signs of use do not always have to be caused by human actions. The sun can also leave its marks. In rooms with a lot of sunlight, it is wise to make use of an aliphatic resin floor. This type of resin floor is resistant to UV radiation and does not yellow due to sunlight.
On dark versions, discoloration is hardly visible and you can manage perfectly well with another, more economical type of resin floor: an aromatic resin floor.
Scratch formation
With the right precautionary measures, you also have scratch formation under control. Proven preventive methods are protective caps under chair and table legs, desk mats at the (home) workplace, and walk-off mats at the entrance. In this way, you keep the culprits of scratches outside as much as possible and prevent dirt that does come inside from causing damage.
Have small scratches occurred despite careful use that you find disturbing? Superficial scratches can be made virtually invisible with a professional scrubbing or polishing machine (do have this carried out by a recognized cleaning company!). Also, special resin floor repair sets often offer a solution.
