Everything you need to know about a concrete poured floor

With a concrete poured floor – also known as residential concrete, cement-based poured floor or mineral poured floor – you create decorative indoor floors with the look of natural, stone-like material. Everything you need to know about this type of poured floor can be read below.

What is a concrete poured floor made of?

To get straight to the point, a concrete poured floor is not the same as a solid concrete floor. A concrete floor is poured, has a thickness of approx. 7 centimeters (in combination with underfloor heating even 10 to 15 cm) and is mechanically power-floated after curing. During this process, the concrete – which is composed of cement, sand and gravel – acquires its cloud-like pattern and compact structure.

A concrete poured floor, such as the Ambacht poured floor, is, like a concrete floor, cement-based – but does not contain gravel as a component. For industrial applications, the top layer of a concrete poured floor is often sprinkled with sand to achieve a certain slip resistance. Due to the absence of gravel, the layer thickness of a concrete poured floor is considerably smaller. Additionally, the application method differs, as a concrete poured floor is troweled and not poured.

The look of concrete can also be achieved on polyurethane (PU) poured floors (a type of synthetic resin floor) by mixing two adjacent colors during the application process.

What is the best choice?

This varies per situation and personal preference:

  • Due to the limited layer thickness of cement-based and PU poured floors, it is in most cases not necessary to make adjustments to existing doors and thresholds. With a solid concrete floor, this chance is much greater, especially in combination with underfloor heating. Additionally, the large layer thickness of solid concrete floors usually causes significant height differences with the other floors in the interior – which breaks the unity of the space;
  • For higher walking comfort, a PU-based poured floor is recommended, such as the Artificial poured floor or the slightly coarser-looking Artificial Concrete
