When applying a resin floor, a number of factors determine the price per m2, namely: (1) the surface area, (2) the required number of pre-treatments for application, (3) any floor finishes and (4) the choice of material. How each of these factors influences the price is explained in this article.
The surface area in m2
Every resin floor project, regardless of the floor size, involves fixed start-up and execution activities. This includes specific application methods with associated processing times and logistical costs, such as travel expenses. For smaller resin floors, these actions represent a relatively larger part of the price per square meter. In addition, applicators often apply a minimum rate for smaller rooms and surfaces.
For resin floors, the following applies: the larger the surface, the lower the costs per m2. After all, the labor factor becomes smaller. It therefore pays to execute multiple rooms at once with a resin floor. This results in a lower price per m2 and immediately creates more unity in the interior.
The required number of pre-treatments
When applying a resin floor, it is of crucial importance that the subfloor is properly smooth and level. The answers to the following questions influence the required number of pre-treatments and thus the price per square meter:
- Is there an existing floor that needs to be removed? A resin floor cannot (simply) be applied to every existing floor. For example, vinyl generally does not offer good adhesion. On other floors, such as tiles, a resin floor can be applied without demolition work, but a leveling layer is required for a sleek result;
- Does the existing subfloor show irregularities? Small air bubbles, cracks and similar damage on concrete subfloors must first be filled with a designated concrete repair agent to obtain a sleek end result;
- Do you want a seamless transition from the wall to the floor? This is a good solution for anyone who wants to extend the natural feeling of a resin floor and its maintenance-free character to the wall. This choice requires more manual work and is therefore more labor-intensive.
Any floor finishes
Resin floors can be executed in various floor finishes that involve (minor) additional costs:
- The floor can be scattered with flakes of a contrasting color during application for a characterful and playful effect;
- A blended concrete look can be obtained by mixing two or more colors during application. To be able to mix the floors optimally, slightly more layer thickness is needed.
With both finishing options, the material costs and the required labor will increase slightly.
The choice of material
Finally, the choice of material also influences the price of a resin floor. For example, a cement-bound resin floor, such as the resin floors from the Ambacht collection, has a lower price per m2 than resin floors composed of polyurethane, such as the resin floors from the Artificial collection. Target prices for the aforementioned floors (including application) are as follows:
- Artificial: €75 – 85 p/m²
- Ambacht: €55 – 75 p/m²
