Resin floors for project applications: how to get the most out of them

That resin floors have occupied a prominent role in the project market for years is more than deserved. The many usage properties and aesthetic finishing options make the floor a good choice in, among others, office spaces, showrooms, shops and homes. To get the most out of a resin floor in such project applications, we share a number of important points of attention in this article.

Realizing good colorfastness

resin floorsTo guarantee good colorfastness with resin floors, it is a prerequisite that the floor is resistant to yellowing in its base. When floors are exposed to bright light and UV radiation, an aliphatic resin floor offers the most durable result. This type of floor is, in contrast to aromatic resin floors, colorfast and does not yellow under such conditions. The resin floors from the Artificial collection are aliphatic and guarantee optimal colorfastness. The floors can be executed in a wide color palette, including all RAL colors.

Only UV-resistant coating not sufficient

In projects, aromatic resin floors are often chosen where only the top coating is UV-resistant. This approach is not recommended. The coating becomes saturated after some time, after which the floor is still exposed to discoloration. To remedy this, the coating will have to be reapplied repeatedly. The costs for renewal in combination with not being able to use the building make this option more expensive in the long run.

For some gray tones, it is worth considering an aromatic resin floor, because fading is hardly visible with these colors. TREU is happy to inform you which color versions are eligible for this type of resin floor.

Keeping beautiful what is beautiful

With normal use, resin floors look like new for a long time. The floor owes this to its good wear-resistant properties. Walking and driving with office chairs will only give signs of use that are easy to remove by means of regular cleaning and maintenance. Light scratches that arise over time can be minimized with good maintenance and can – when these are perceived as disturbing – be made invisible by applying a new transparent top coating.

The preservation of the floor is largely in your own hands. Although scratches and other signs of use by sharp objects can never be 100% excluded, this is easy to limit with the right precautions:

  • By placing an entrance mat, causes of scratches (such as small stones) are kept outside as much as possible;
  • Despite careful use, it can still happen that small scratches arise. In rooms where there is a lot of walking, matte versions are advised, because signs of use are less visible on them.

Crack-bridging capacity of importance

Another important point of attention regarding the preservation of the floor concerns the extent to which the floor is able to bridge cracks. With many epoxy resin floor systems, cracking is a risk. The polyurethane resin floors from the Artificial collection are much better resistant to this. The floors are naturally hard-elastic and optionally executable with a crack-bridging membrane. This composition also gives the floor its pleasant walking comfort, resilience and contact sound reduction. This last property can be further improved with wall solutions such as acoustic curtains and acoustic wallpaper.

Varying with decorative finishes

In addition to the many color versions, the Artificial collection offers even more aesthetic finishing options to achieve a unique floor concept. A small selection of the options:

  • Sprinkling the floor with flakes or granulate stones. With this, you combine the look-and-feel of Terrazzo floors with the advantages of Artificial. Terrazzo is more expensive and more labor-intensive due to the required grinding and polishing operations. With Artificial, only light grinding is sufficient for a result that looks identical;
  • Applying a concrete look. By mixing two or more colors during the application process, a beautiful blended appearance is created on which the hand of the master is clearly visible.

Artificial resin floor: the ideal project floor

Its crack-bridging character, wear-resistant properties, many color versions and good colorfastness make Artificial the project floor par excellence. High-quality products are used for every layer to guarantee quality in the long term. The floor meets all project requirements:

  • UV resistant
  • Liquid-tight
  • Easy to clean
  • Suitable for underfloor heating
  • Fire retardant (according to Bfl S1 class)
  • Wear-resistant
