MED/IMO carpet for ships
Halbmond’s marine carpeting complies with the standards of both the Marine Equipment Directive (MED) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These regulations apply to various aspects of ship safety and equipment:
- Fire safety. Floor coverings, including carpet, must meet strict fire safety standards. Carpet must have sufficient fire-retardant properties to ensure safety on board the vessel;
- Minimization of smoke development. Carpet must also be designed to minimize the production of harmful smoke in the event of a fire, facilitating the evacuation of passengers and crew in such a scenario;
- Moisture resistance. Ship decks are regularly exposed to salt and saltwater; water that can also be tracked inside. Halbmond’s marine carpet is resistant to these conditions and will not be damaged by them;
- Acoustic properties. The use of carpet on board has another important property: it contributes to the reduction of footfall noise in the cabins and corridors of the ship. This enhances the comfort of passengers and crew;
