A resin floor outside – is that possible?

You likely want to extend a beautiful and durable resin floor to the garden as well. A resin floor that is continued from inside to outside creates that beautiful inside-outside effect. But can resin floors also be cast outside? The honest answer is unfortunately no. Discover below why this is not possible and what is possible.

Why are resin floors not suitable for outdoors?

There are several reasons why a resin floor is not suitable for outdoor use:

  • Temperature and humidity. During the curing of the resin floor, a constant temperature and humidity are required. Outside you have to deal with dew formation and (large) temperature differences between day and night. Moisture can lead to bubbles. The required conditions for applying a resin floor can therefore not be guaranteed;
  • Insects and foliage. During the curing process, nothing may fall into the still wet floor. Outside you cannot prevent insects or falling leaves from ending up in the floor;
  • Weather conditions. Direct sunlight is not good for a resin floor. UV radiation can cause the floor to discolor with certain resin floor types. Furthermore, resin floors are not well resistant to low temperatures. When the floor is exposed to freezing cold, for example, cracks can occur;
  • Sand and dirt. Outside it is impossible to keep the resin floor free of sand and dirt. The friction that occurs when walking over sand and small stones can cause scratches.

Resin floor for your canopy or conservatory at home

Do you still want to create that inside-outside effect? Then there may be a solution after all. If the resin floor is to be placed in a conservatory, then a resin floor outside is often possible. In that case, there are some matters to take into account:

  • Stable temperature. In a conservatory, the temperature will fluctuate less. Nevertheless, it is important to create a stable temperature during the curing of the resin floor. If necessary, you can condition this yourself with a heat source;
  • Walk-off mat. Keep blowing sand and other dirt away from your resin floor. By placing a walk-off mat at the entrance, you keep a large part of the dirt outside your conservatory. This prevents scratches.
